Healthy Hot & Spicy Cocoa
Since I am a huge fan of dark antioxidant-rich chocolate, I had to share this sumptuously spiced, healthy hot cocoa recipe! As a bonus, the variety of warm and inviting spices offer an array of health benefits that you do not get in the more traditional versions. So, forget the guilt, and take a moment to relax and enjoy this deliciously decadent drink.
1 cup almond, hemp or rice milk
1 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Splash of vanilla extract
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Sprinkle of chili powder
Sprinkle of ground nutmeg
Sprinkle of ground cloves
Raw honey or liquid stevia to taste
Heat the plant-based milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat until lukewarm. Stir the cocoa powder and honey (or stevia) into the warmed liquid until dissolved. Add the vanilla, cinnamon, chili powder, nutmeg, and cloves. Heat another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Smell, then savor and sip!
